About

NICOLE RENÉE LA FOLLETTE

[“victory of the people” • “reborn” • “little fool” (feminine)]

Nicole was born into Seattle’s rains, lush moss and cedar essence, and was raised with the scents of eucalyptus trees and Nag Champa in Marin County, California. She has a Bachelor of Arts in languages and philosophy from The Evergreen State College, where she also dipped her toe in poetics. She is a third generation published poet; active in her local poetry communities; and sniffs out open mics when sauntering the globe. She celebrates that her life’s story is unique, like everyone else’s. Nicole currently lives in Kirkland, Washington.

Unique, Like Everyone is her first book.

Discover the MIRACLE Within (Reflections of Life, 2024, 15 min.)

From South African documentary filmmakers,  Justine du Toit and Michael Raimondo (formerly known as ‘Green Renaissance’.) This heartfelt film gently explores one of Nicole’s many nuanced life experiences; how she rose above a traumatic event and rebuilt a life worth living. In it, she reads three poems from Unique, Like Everyone: “Valid Footprint”, “Miracle Witness” and “Rainbow”. Shot on location in Kirkland, Washington, autumn 2023. (Nicole was invited to make the film after the filmmakers had spotted her—and her dog, BuddhaFly—via the internet in the KING 5 Evening segment (below)

Words Take Root in This North Seattle Park
(KING 5 Evening, 2021, 2 min)

Poetry in the Park is just one of the many poetry groups Nicole belongs to in the Seattle region. Here, poets gather alfresco from spring to autumn to share their affinity for poetic expression, nature, and camaraderie. Nicole and BuddhaFly are fortunate to feature prominently in this episode hosted by Jim Dever.
